A new path forward: Will’s Journey to Success
William (or Will, as he likes to be called) is an 18-year-old with a passion for football and boxing. Will found himself struggling during his school years. He said, “I was in school, but not really in classes.” He felt no motivation at all and disconnected from his studies. He fell behind.
But then, one day, talking with a friend became the turning point he desperately needed. Realization hit him hard: he needed a change. He needed to grow up, take charge of his future, and move forward.
Five months ago, Will embarked on a transformative journey with the EN ROUTE program offered by BGC Moncton (formerly Boys and Girls Club of Moncton). This program was a game-changer for him, providing the perfect blend of structure and flexibility. “The learning environment at BGC Moncton is pretty cool. I feel very comfortable when I am sitting on a bean bag or listening to music while studying or doing my homework,” Will shares with a smile.
Will now dedicates five hours a day, five days a week, to the EN ROUTE program. His goal? To finish high school and enroll at NBCC to become an electrician. “I do a lot better now. I stay more focused and feel more motivated to move forward to my future. While studying here, I am also looking for a part-time job to make some savings…” he explains.
Recently, Will took an exam with a teacher from Harrison Trimble High School, where he plans to return as a Grade 12 student this September. His hard work paid off. “My teacher is really impressed with my performance,” he excitedly shares, the pride evident in his voice.
When asked if he had any advice for other youth facing similar struggles, Will’s eyes light up with determination. With a shining smile, he confidently says, “It is worth it to give yourself a try. When you realize it is worth it, do it when you can and stick to that.”
With the right support and a renewed sense of purpose, anyone can overcome their challenges and move towards a brighter future. Will’s new chapter is just beginning, but it’s clear that he is on the right track to achieving his dreams and inspiring others along the way.
