Black History Month Event: A Journey Through the Past

BGC Moncton’s Black History Month Event: A Journey Through the Past was an unforgettable celebration, bringing together 500+ attendees for an evening of culture, music, and inspiration.

The night was filled with incredible performances, including The Dundun Eulogy, showcasing the rich tradition of the Yoruba talking drum, and an electrifying musical set by Nihad and the Bouhala Band. Our keynote speaker, Jordan Owens, a retired pro-hockey player, shared his journey of resilience and self-discovery. The Umuoma Dance Group — meaning Beautiful Kids in the Igbo language — brought vibrant energy to the stage, and we closed the night with a powerful spoken word piece, “The Poem That We Carry,” performed by Chinazam Igwe, one of Canada’s Top 10 Under 18 Changemakers.
